Brand Influencer : FARO MUSODZA

It must’ve bloomed overnight . . . unlike HUMAN BEINGS. We take TIME.
— Faro Musodza

This year we have been fortunate to work with brand influencers based in the USA, Sydney and Melbourne.

We’re stoked to introduce Faro who hails from Melbourne.

Faro and I have known each other since she modelled our head wraps on the runway in 2014 at our first runway show (in Melbourne). I was captivated by her energy, her enchanting smile plus the fact that Faro sported extremely short hair, challenging for styling head wraps! This was the ideal brand influencer combination so without hesitation, we invited Faro on board.

Our crepe head wrap TANGERINE drapes beautifully - Faro decided to style it with a simple back knot, leaving the ends free.

We see our brand ambassadors/influencers as individuals who willingly share their love for our brand with enthusiasm and honesty. We would love for our supporters/customers/followers to get to know the person under the head wrap.

So.

Let’s get to know Faro a bit better . . .

DH : Tell us three things about yourself.

FM : My full name is RUFARO but I prefer the shortened version . . . FARO. My name means HAPPINESS in the ChiShona language (of Zimbabwe). I am many things - actor, shoemaker, nurse but most importantly of all, I am Mudiwa’s mother. I’m also a Virgo!

DH : Who do you admire the most?

FM : People who find their purpose and focus on it despite the challenges. Whether it’s mental, physical, financial or all of these, they still wake up and go for it. I’ve learnt that life can truly drag you down. But you’ve got to have the determination and willpower to do the one thing you love no matter how small it may seem. Trust your instincts and allow it to be your intuitive inner compass. Your energy will always propel you forward. But we’ve got to learn to trust that energy and allow it to direct us.

Our ankara head wrap designs are very colourful. Faro did a wonderful job of teaming our head wrap SHASHI with an equally colourful outfit.

We all can agree that fashion and women go hand-in-hand. Adding a head wrap will embellish any outfit. We quizzed Faro about her taste in fashion.

DH : How would you describe your taste in fashion.

FM : I am often drawn to items that are first colourful and feminine. Then I consider how these would shape my body. I often go for sporty looks for on-the-go lifestyle or relaxed and effortless but nevertheless head turning. Then there’s the goddess look . . . just add sultry to amp it up!

DH : Do you have a favourite fashion designer or fashion icon? Why?

FM : This is ever changing. Lately I’ve been choosing to buy material and personally work with a seamstress to work on a design of my choosing. With the current fashion and sadly, body trends, I have difficulty to find items that are a great fit and also affordable. Oftentimes I find myself buying high end items and having a seamstress take it in to fit my shape. Doing my own designs has been liberating.

Head wrap SHASHI : Faro has given her styling a nice twist (no pun intended) by teaming SHASHI with a block colour top and simple hoops.

On matters relating to life . . .

DH : What advice would you give your younger self.

FM : Move at a much slower pace. Take your time. And ask as many questions until you truly understand what is being said. There is power in knowing. Continue to love yourself, you got you!

DH : Stand-out moment in your life …

FM : The love of my life gave me call last year in September. Had not seen or spoken to him in a decade and half. It’s been unreal . . . am still trying to calm down.

What about Faro’s social activities.

DH : Where’s your favourite place to chillax.

FM : Chillaxing in the Motherland aka Zimbabwe. It’s unsettled at the moment but it’s home. You will always find moments and places that harmonise with your whole being, and that remind you why you are here. It’s also truly the only place I’m able to unwind fully whilst someone looks after my son.

DH : What do you do in your spare time.

FM : I try to sleep and recharge as much as I can. I also dance a lot especially if I feel sluggish or restless.

DH : Complete the sentence “When I wear my head wrap I feel . . . “

FM : Regal!

Faro can be found on social media and goes by the handle Faro Musodza. BTW, did we mention that Faro has starred in the short film ‘Blackwood’ , a comedy-drama exploring the African Australian experience in small town Australia.

We thank Faro for her time and we look forward to welcoming her on board as a brand influencer for another term.

Brand Ambassador : YENENESH NIGUSSE

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
— Marianne Williamson

Yenenesh or YENI for short, is a dear friend of my daughter. They've shared many a wonderful memory together both socially and as dancers, here in Australia as well as on the international scene. After a stint overseas, Yeni is once again based in Brisbane. Once I heard that Yeni was back, I wasted no time in asking her to join our brand ambassador team. I was thrilled when she agreed because Yeni needs more than 24 hours in a day to achieve her daily goals!

Yeni looks stunning in our limited edition African bazin headwrap design. We've named her TURQUOISE and teamed her with earrings from Melbourne based jewellery designer Ovazania.

Yeni has a wicked sense of humour, a big heart and brings so much enthusiasm to our photoshoots. An accomplished dancer, Yeni oozes charisma and boldly flaunts her very own fashion style influenced by her ethnic roots.

So. What is this diva all about? Here's an insight into what makes Yeni, Yeni.

DH : Tell us three things about yourself.

YN : I LOVE to dance. I have a crazy sense of humour. I HATE injustice.

DH : Do you have a favourite fashion designer or fashion icon? Why?

YN : I don’t strictly have a favourite designer or icon. My main influence in fashion comes from traditional African fabrics and designs teamed with a contemporary twist. I also admire our local street, urban and high end fashion designers particularly the diversity they have to offer.

DH : How would you describe your taste in fashion.

YN : It’s a continual experiment! My favourites are the basic colours ... charcoal, grey, black, white ... combined with a splash of colour and teamed with eye-catching accessories.

The lace skirt and top is from H&M. The headwrap is from our SS17 collection. These also happen to be Yeni's favourite colours.

DH : Who do you admire the most?

YN : My aunty.

DH : What advice would you give your younger self.

YN : Don’t listen to naysayers, particularly those who have implied that you would never be good enough. You are beautiful, intelligent and can achieve whatever you want in life. Only YOU have the power to limit yourself. Strive to be the best you can be and don't heed the negative influencers.

DH: Stand-out moment in your life ....

YN : Going back to Ethiopia for the first time ever. Locating my Ethiopian family and reconnecting with my ethnic roots - an amazing moment and an unforgettable experience. I cherish these memories every day and I'm forever grateful for the significant opportunity.

DH : What do you do in your spare time.

YN : I work on my creative ideas, always keen to try something new or spend quality time with my nieces and nephews.

DH : What’s your favourite place to chillax in Brisbane? Why?

YN : Orleigh Park in West End. It’s quiet, right beside the Brisbane River, and has an abundance of trees. I love nature and finding a peaceful spot to think and reflect.

DH : Complete the sentence "When I wear my headwrap, I feel …

YN : Empowered as a woman to be bold and confident within myself. I feel regal, like a queen. I feel even more connected to my heritage.
