Brand Influencer : FARO MUSODZA

It must’ve bloomed overnight . . . unlike HUMAN BEINGS. We take TIME.
— Faro Musodza

This year we have been fortunate to work with brand influencers based in the USA, Sydney and Melbourne.

We’re stoked to introduce Faro who hails from Melbourne.

Faro and I have known each other since she modelled our head wraps on the runway in 2014 at our first runway show (in Melbourne). I was captivated by her energy, her enchanting smile plus the fact that Faro sported extremely short hair, challenging for styling head wraps! This was the ideal brand influencer combination so without hesitation, we invited Faro on board.

Our crepe head wrap TANGERINE drapes beautifully - Faro decided to style it with a simple back knot, leaving the ends free.

We see our brand ambassadors/influencers as individuals who willingly share their love for our brand with enthusiasm and honesty. We would love for our supporters/customers/followers to get to know the person under the head wrap.

So.

Let’s get to know Faro a bit better . . .

DH : Tell us three things about yourself.

FM : My full name is RUFARO but I prefer the shortened version . . . FARO. My name means HAPPINESS in the ChiShona language (of Zimbabwe). I am many things - actor, shoemaker, nurse but most importantly of all, I am Mudiwa’s mother. I’m also a Virgo!

DH : Who do you admire the most?

FM : People who find their purpose and focus on it despite the challenges. Whether it’s mental, physical, financial or all of these, they still wake up and go for it. I’ve learnt that life can truly drag you down. But you’ve got to have the determination and willpower to do the one thing you love no matter how small it may seem. Trust your instincts and allow it to be your intuitive inner compass. Your energy will always propel you forward. But we’ve got to learn to trust that energy and allow it to direct us.

Our ankara head wrap designs are very colourful. Faro did a wonderful job of teaming our head wrap SHASHI with an equally colourful outfit.

We all can agree that fashion and women go hand-in-hand. Adding a head wrap will embellish any outfit. We quizzed Faro about her taste in fashion.

DH : How would you describe your taste in fashion.

FM : I am often drawn to items that are first colourful and feminine. Then I consider how these would shape my body. I often go for sporty looks for on-the-go lifestyle or relaxed and effortless but nevertheless head turning. Then there’s the goddess look . . . just add sultry to amp it up!

DH : Do you have a favourite fashion designer or fashion icon? Why?

FM : This is ever changing. Lately I’ve been choosing to buy material and personally work with a seamstress to work on a design of my choosing. With the current fashion and sadly, body trends, I have difficulty to find items that are a great fit and also affordable. Oftentimes I find myself buying high end items and having a seamstress take it in to fit my shape. Doing my own designs has been liberating.

Head wrap SHASHI : Faro has given her styling a nice twist (no pun intended) by teaming SHASHI with a block colour top and simple hoops.

On matters relating to life . . .

DH : What advice would you give your younger self.

FM : Move at a much slower pace. Take your time. And ask as many questions until you truly understand what is being said. There is power in knowing. Continue to love yourself, you got you!

DH : Stand-out moment in your life …

FM : The love of my life gave me call last year in September. Had not seen or spoken to him in a decade and half. It’s been unreal . . . am still trying to calm down.

What about Faro’s social activities.

DH : Where’s your favourite place to chillax.

FM : Chillaxing in the Motherland aka Zimbabwe. It’s unsettled at the moment but it’s home. You will always find moments and places that harmonise with your whole being, and that remind you why you are here. It’s also truly the only place I’m able to unwind fully whilst someone looks after my son.

DH : What do you do in your spare time.

FM : I try to sleep and recharge as much as I can. I also dance a lot especially if I feel sluggish or restless.

DH : Complete the sentence “When I wear my head wrap I feel . . . “

FM : Regal!

Faro can be found on social media and goes by the handle Faro Musodza. BTW, did we mention that Faro has starred in the short film ‘Blackwood’ , a comedy-drama exploring the African Australian experience in small town Australia.

We thank Faro for her time and we look forward to welcoming her on board as a brand influencer for another term.

Brand Ambassador : CHRISTINE ACHA VINCENT

Before anyone really sees you, believes in you, accepts, likes or validates you, it needs to start from within.
— Christine Acha Vincent

Nearly five years on and I still marvel at the way our brand ambassadors have unintentionally joined the Diva Headwraps team.

As we were setting up our stall with the Moorooka Saturday Markets, our first visitor casually strolled inside. Admiring our collections and lovingly caressing the many designs on offer, the young lady wanted to know the price before making her selection. Since we only accepted cash,  she promised to return later to make her purchase. The day became hectic and we forgot about the incident. About two weeks later, I received a message. The caller identified herself as the 'visitor who did not return to pick a head wrap as promised.' I arranged to meet her and at that first meeting we spoke only briefly. Two weeks later, she returned.  She was hooked and wanted to purchase another of our designs. This time we spoke for nearly an hour. I was drawn to this young lady's wise outlook on life.

Christine exuded an inner calm that far belied her age and had the most dazzling smile. Without hesitation, I invited her to be our new brand ambassador. She hesitated at first and then admitted that she would be delighted to come on board. I was overjoyed!

Christine wears our batik mini headwrap RUSTIC teamed with a simple gold choker. We chose a bright blue eyeliner from the NYX cosmetic range to enhance Christine's eyes. A white bodysuit completed the look.

Our first photoshoot with Christine was a solo affair. We had just received our new collection of batik headwraps. Not only would Christine's short hair be ideal for styling but we had just purchased a brand new range of NYX eyeliners and we were super keen for Christine to wear the bright blue version. As you can see from the image, Christine's radiant smile and our eyeliner turned out pretty okay.

Our latest crepe headwrap design CRIMSON. A check top from Target Australia, accessories from Lovisa Jewellery, red nails, red eyeliner from NYX cosmetics and yellow daffodils to compliment this bold look.

Christine welcomed our blog questions. She felt that these were relevant to our brand but more importantly, she found the questions challenging and somewhat confrontational but in a good sense. It allowed her the opportunity to assess her past, make peace with her present and be bold about her future.

DH : What advice would you give your younger self.

CAV : Self-love is where your power lies. When you love yourself to the fullest, you divert from drama, chaos and anything that doesn’t level up to or recognise your worth and value.

DH : Who do you admire the most?

CAV : My father is the most courageous man I know. He brought us to this country for a better life and opportunity. He always encourages us to pursue an education and have a career that allows us to live comfortably in this country.

DH : What’s your favourite place to chillax in Brisbane? Why?

CAV : I love travelling down to the Gold Coast. The beach is one of the most beautiful places on earth. That’s my place to chillax.

DH : What do you do in your spare time.

CAV : In my spare time, I like to paint, draw and read.

Headwrap SHURI, another of our new ankara designs, had Christine's name written on it! Our mood board called for an off-the-shoulder top from BooHoo; red nails; nude lipstick; gold hoops from Lovisa Jewellery and the obligatory eyeliner from NYX cosmetics in a bold red.

DH: Stand-out moment in your life.

CAV : Travelling back to see my family in Uganda. I had the chance to live among my relatives in the village. Everyone looked like me, spoke my language and ate the same African food I grew up eating. We were connected through our culture, values and beliefs. People in the village and towns were very friendly and welcoming. Everywhere you go, there’s a strong sense of community and belonging. There’s no place like home.

DH : Complete the sentence "When I wear my headwrap, I feel …

CAV : Confident, beautiful and feminine.

Footnote : Before the photo shoot, I wasn’t sure about the choice of makeup and clothing. I decided to trust Charmaine and see how it’ll look at the end. When I started seeing the pictures, I couldn’t recognise myself. I saw a more beautiful and feminine version of me. I never thought I could look that good. It was such a pleasure working with Charmaine. She is very creative, patient, kind and considerate. She is open to receiving our opinion and comments before and during the photo shoot. Lastly, she is an absolute pleasure to work with.
